Long haired breeds that will need regular grooming all of their lives should become accustomed to being groomed early; eight to twelve weeks is a good age to begin grooming. They should have had at least two puppy vaccines and a fecal check prior to the first grooming.
We usually do a series of puppy visits to get them used to the routine a little bit at a time. Normally, this is three separate visits about every two weeks. Most breeds should be on a grooming schedule of every four to sixteen weeks year round. All pets like consistency. If you come here and like our grooming, we hope you will continue to come. Switching from one place to another makes it hard on the pet because they never know what to expect. They like to feel comfortable with their surroundings and with their groomer. If they are happy to come and spend the day for grooming, then they will be happy to come and spend the night for boarding too.
Don’t take them to the vet for boarding and grooming either. Just think about how upset we get when we have to go to the doctor. You can’t tell them what they are going for. They just know they get shots and have other bad experiences at that place. Remember: A happy pet makes for a happy groomer, and a happy groomer makes a happy pet! Stephanie (Shelton) Singleton
